Hello y'all

Like some of u know, I'm looking for a new gaming laptop, coz the chance of me wiping the raid at 2-5 fps increases by like...alot more than it used to be...and that was alot :p

So, since I really don't know alot of laptops and I'm not updated about what's best for a reasonable price, I'm asking here, maybe someone knows something about this.

Oh, btw, I'm not interested in carrying a desktop computer around, is a laptop my only choice. I know Dave said something about a laptop for a decent price on vent the other day, but since my laptop sucks in every single way now, I didn't understand...and they prolly didn't understand when I asked to repeat...coz only thing I heard after I asked, was some English jibberjabber about the euro beeing superior to the pound in every single way.

Umm most certainly NOT?

"Alienware give you what you pay for." Double-V TF?!?

Maybe they'll give you something good, but you have to pay ridiculous amounts of money for it

AlienWare are good, but extremely overpriced.

If you're buying a new laptop, make sure you get something with a dedicated graphics chipset - 9600M from nVidia would be a good choice.

hmm, so 9600M, huh? Cheapest laptop I found (in the shop I do all my normal computer shopping) is the Acer Aspire 7730G-644G100MN (17"/T6400/ 4GB/1TB)...which seems nice, but have no idea if any of the other specs...I'm gonna give a link, but it's in dutch...ppl that know something about computers, know what most of the things mean, though Smile

I've also noticed the Acer has a 9600M GT, what does the GT stand for? I know it's something good when buying a car, but wasn't it like low-budget if it's on a gfx card? Smile

Btw...Alienware is out of the question...if I'd be a millionaire, the Alienware would be a decent price...but I'm not, so no 3k laptops plx :p

Link Acer Aspire 7730G-644G100MN (17"/T6400/ 4GB/1TB): http://www.forcom.be/?product=304990

oh, btw, 899€ euros is £787,56

When i got my alienware laptop, from 3 different other places (including dell) identical specs were about £400 more than it was from alienware, though their desktops are overpriced.

I've been checking out the Alienware laptops...they're pretty pricey, but not as bad as I thought, since u can customise your own laptop and don't need to spend top dollar if u want an Alienware, another thing that strikes me, is the payment plan, which is pretty interesting, buy now, pay later...that way I won't have to save up for x months, but I can just deposit the amount I save every month as downpayment...very interesting...

I've noticed Elitist Jerks is sponsored by Alienware...get Eternals some sponsoring too...might be cheaper Razz

Pretty much made up my mind, after researching a bit and looking in to other options for a laptop, I think my investment would be sounder with an Alienware than some £400 pound piece of crap I'd have to replace within 6 months.

So, I'm hoping on ordering one this weekend and then receiving it mid/end next week.

Thnx for ur help...well...didn't get alot of help, just a discussion on the greatness of Alienware :p

Just look after it well, I have a laptop cooler now AND have had to replace the heatsink grease, but neither are particularly hard to do or expensive, heatsink grease was £20 and laptop cooler about the same.

But thnx for the heads-up on the heatsink grease and cooler Smile

Was the cooler broken or was it more like annual maintenance?

The Acer you linked would be a good choice. The GT cards are just standard, really. GTX is the better, but not a lot of laptops include GTX clocked Graphics chips. In the end, it's just a branding for which range of card they are. GS is low-end, with GT or no-suffix, then GTX, and beyond (GTX Ultra, GTX OC (Overclocked) or even GTX OCX (Overclocked Extreme etc.).

The latter ones are just the board manufacturers way of sorting out graphics chips that can go to the higher speeds - they basically test them at each level (starting at the highest) to see what they can stand, and if they work at a specific level, thats what they get sold as.

Well, with only 2 fans under heavy load it was heating to 90-100C (lol) so i bought external cooler until i got heatsink grease replaced, and now it runs at ~73C (which is probably around what it did initially) with the cooler and ~78 without, which will help extend lifetime.
