The Iron Council is an encounter of three boss-level mobs in Ulduar.

Each has 10 million hitpoints. Their HP is not a shared pool like Twin Emperors or Illidari Council. If one dies, the surviving ones heal to full HP. There's a 10 minute enrage timer.

Large Dwarf: Steelbreaker
5. The Iron Council Council

Medium Dwarf: Runemaster Molgeim (technically an Iron Vyrkul)
5. The Iron Council Creature_molgeim2

Small Dwarf: Stormcaller Brundir
5. The Iron Council Creature_brundir2

Each time one dies, the others gain another charge of Supercharge: their damage increases by 25% and they gain more abilities.

The remaining mobs also heal to full, making a strategy of "burn them all down together" not an option.

Abilities:

Steelbreaker

0 Dwarves down
He casts Fusion Punch on a ten second cooldown. If he is in a Rune of Power he will hit far harder, so it's vitally important that he's never standing in them.

He has an aura: High Voltage. It deals 2500 nature damage every 3 seconds. When he dies the aura disappears.

1 Dwarf down
All the above abilities plus:

Steelbreaker gains Static Disruption, which deals 7500 nature damage to enemies in an area and increases nature damage taken by 50% for 20 seconds. 12 yard radius. (It's likely this ability will force tank swaps when this fight is done "hard mode" with Steelbreaker dying last.)

2 Dwarves down
All the above abilities plus:

Overwhelming Power: Steelbreaker buffs his current target with this ability, which doubles their damage but kills them when the buff expires. When the player dies in this fashion they explode for 9000 AoE damage in 15 yards.

Electrical Charge: Every time a player dies, Steelbreaker's damage increases by 25% permanently.

Runemaster Molgeim
5. The Iron Council Rune-of-power-clip
0 Dwarves down
Runemaster Molgeim casts Rune of Power(shown above) on a target NPC periodically -- there's a few seconds with no rune and then another appears. It will buff anyone standing in it, including a mob.

1 Dwarf down
All of the above abiltities plus:

Runemaster Molgeim gains Rune of Death which does 6000 damage/second starting immediately after cast to everyone in range. It's cast on a target player.

He also periodically casts Shield of Runes on himself: after he takes 50,000 damage, he will increase his dps by 50% for 15 seconds. This ability can be dispelled or spellstolen.

2 Dwarves down
All of the above abilities plus:

Runemaster Moldeim gains Rune of Summoning which summons Lightning Elementals. These chase after players and appear to explode and deal damage. Their melee attack is Lightning Blast: deals 14-15.8k nature damage to everyone within 30 yards and kills the elemental in the process.

Stormcaller Brundir

0 Dwarves down
Stormcaller Brundir casts Chain Lightning which chains through the raid. It can be interrupted, and he can have his cast time slowed (e.g. with Curse of Tongues.)

He also emotes that he is Overloading as he's casting a ten-second long spell called Overload; it's vitally important that everyone gets out of range by the time the cast concludes (it deals 25000 nature damage to everyone within 30 yards and knocks them down). Stormcaller is immune to interrupts while casting Overload.

1 dwarf down
All of the above abilities plus:

Stormcaller Brundir gains Lightning Whirl, which flings AE lightning bolts around and is similar in some ways to the whirlwinding trash before Kael'thas. It's interruptable.

2 dwarves down
All of the above abilities plus:

Stormcaller Brundir gains Lightning Tendrils, where he launches into the air and chases after players, AE'ing everyone in his path.

He also gains Stormshield, which deals 250 damage to attackers and makes him immune to stuns.

Strategy

Phase 1: Three Dwarves alive

All three pull simultaneously. Off tank the two smaller dwarves while the raid burns down Steelbreaker (this is the easiest kill order.)

When a Rune of Power is convenient, the ranged should stand in it (it's too risky to get Steelbreaker close to it.) If you tank Steelbreaker and Runemaster close to each other, it increases the chances of "convenient" Runes of Power for the raid.

Steelbreaker's Fusion Punch hits very hard on your tank. You can use cooldowns to mitigate it, but they're not absolutely required (the hits were toned down partway through the PTR night.) That said, a DK tank is far easier on Steelbreaker.

A warrior is ideally suited for offtanking Stormcaller, because he needs to be interrupted each time you move him. Ideally he is tanked at least 30' from the raid so the DPS doesn't need to interrupt during Overload.

Phase 2: Two Dwarves alive

Refer to the abilities to learn what each dwarf can add.

It's easier to kill the medium-sized dwarf second, Runemaster Moldeim.

In this phase, the tanks of the two dwarves need to be still tanked 30' apart ideally. The tanks swap locations in the room, moving their mobs with them, each time a Rune of Power goes down on Stormcaller, so the raid can gain the DPS increase.

Runemaster hits low enough that he can just be tanked in the Rune of Power to make sure the melee gain the full benefit also.

The Rune of Death is especially nasty: without runspeed it can be hard to get out of the area without taking a full 12-18k of damage (6000 damage per second starting immediately when it hits the ground.) He casts it on a target player, so it's helpful for someone to call out on vent when it'll end up in the ranged clump versus the melee clump versus the tank on Stormcaller.

The tank must interrupt the Lightning Whirl from Stormcaller. Note that if he's in a Rune of Death a warrior will not be able to reach him. Your DK's need to be alert to assist in those cases.

Phase 3: One Dwarf alive
5. The Iron Council Lightning-tendrils
Lightning Tendrils

The easiest dwarf to have alive at this point is Stormcaller.

His additional ability sends him up in the air where he chases after raid members, pelting the raid who are near by with AE lightning bolts.

To handle this, your tanks need to chain-taunt him when he's in the area, forcing him to stay in one place while the ranged beat him down.

When he lands, your raid needs to immediately stun him and silence him: he will stay grounded for as long as he can't complete a chain lightning cast. The minute he does, however, he takes to the air again.

Found this nice link for the healing, at least.

We get 3 tank cycles as such, but now I need some numbers. I need to know exactly how much damage a dk tanks AntiMagic Zone and Shell are gonna absorb, meanwhile im gonna be finding some wws's to find out how hard the fusion punch and static charge are gonna hit with the meltdown buffs. Essentailly we're gonna need a cooldown for every punch, much like thorims unbalances. Hunters, get tenacity pets ready please, also al and imp, make sure you can play soul link specs. If you have the entire raid stay in melee range of steelbreaker, except say, hutners and warlocks, his static disruption will only hit the hunters and warlocks, who can mitigate abit of the damage.

Well if a dk tank specs Anti magic zone, you get a 100% spelldmg reduction absorbing a maximum of 100% of your health, so basicly, If your dk has say 45k raidbuffed, then 45k absorbed Razz

Anti magic zones absorbing 15468 in full tank gear(attack power based), with horns its goes up to 16124, with kings+might+strength foodbuff you should get 17500+

But remember, its 75% of the damage, up to 17500, so if it hits for say 20k, it'l reduce it to 15k, and only use up 15k, keeping 2k spare
so if it hits for 40k, it'l use up all of it, letting 22500 get through.

So its quite a risky method really, helps if you have a small cooldown with it, a nature res pot or somthing, just to be safe

Roar of Sacrifice only works on hunters at the moment ronab. Unless you mean you want to try using a tenacity pet's intervene?

edit: nm i follow you. hunters stay out and use RoS to mitigate the damage on themselves when static disruption hits.

A BM spec with glyph of mending would help here. 12s of RoS every 30s. Even better if dps wasnt a massive concern spec for stamina and break out the teir 5 (still got mine) lol

tenacity pet + t5 + glyph of mending + SURV spec

Would do the trick nicely me thinks with only a marginal dps drop. (sure BM would be 'safer') looking forward to doing something else besides just dps Smile

Only prob with locks playing with soullink is gonna be that were not applying the 5% crit :/. (The only viable spec atm with the critbuff is affliction and there is no way of keeping a good dps with soul link brought in there). To get soul link we have got to change to destro, which i myself have no problem with at all, i just love the playstyle of it.

Though if we get a fireball mage i guess it could work, or just one of us locks staying affliction?

Since the fight mainly becomes really dangerous in p3, and Steelbreaker has to be nuked down in a very short time, reckon on-use-trinkets would be handy. Also for dps, try save aggro-lowering cooldowns for when the first tank is going to explode (/wave @ Ronab), since overaggroing the second tank who picks up Steelbreaker will likely mean a wipe. (first tank has plenty of time to built up loads of aggro anyways). For me that means, i have to remember to take Mirror Images out of my 'blow-all-cooldowns' macro. ^^
