Mcluvvin - Protection Paladin (Declined) Mcluvvin

General Information

Real name : Dominic
Age : 20
Country: UK
Currently at University
About Me: I am currently studying a Animation and SFX course, and so enjoy anything and everything
game/film and technology related Smile I am probably considered a typical nerd, not help ed by my knowledge of
computers, science and love for Sci-fi. But love to hang out with mates watch movies and enjoy life.

Character name: Mcluvvin
Class: Paladin - Protection
Race: Dwarf
Armory link: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ghostlands&cn=Mcluvvin&gn=FUSE

UI screenshot: https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/img96/2781/44978941.jpg
Played Time on your character: 162 days 4 hours, 47 mins 49 secs. 115 days at Lvl 80
Professions and level of professions: Jewlcrafting and Mining Both 450.

Do you have a stable internet connection: Yes Very stable connection, never known to Dc constantly. If i
ever do its usually due to the router dying, not because of a bad connection to WoW. Connection is Wired, so no Wifi lag.
What other characters do you have? I currently have No alts. I have one level 80, one Main and that's my
Tank Smile. I have been criticized in the past by people saying i haven't seen enough of the game to understand
how other classes work. But i honestly feel that hasn't hindered me one bit. I have leveled my character as
a tank from level 1, Ive been tanking (real world time) for 2 years and enjoy it very much, and as so i
feel i am very good at it, not say there isn't always room for improvement and tweaking.

Raid times and Experience

We raid 7 days a week, days and times could possibly change in the future, please delete yes or no below
depending on whether you would be able to attend or not. (server times)

Monday 19:30-00:00 - Yes
Tuesday 19:30-00:00 - Yes
Wednesday 19:30-00:00 - Yes
Thursday 19:30-00:00 - Yes
Friday 19:30-xx:xx - Yes
Saturday 19:30-xx:xx - Yes
Sunday 19:30-23:00 - Yes

I am, in theory available to raid everyday as i don't have any job commitments, and weekend times (including
Friday) i can raid till i fall sleep. However My Major Real world commitment is to my University, I home
every day before raid times, but as deadlines approach, my commitments to that will understandably have to
take priority. But plenty of warning and notice can be given when ill require more time devoted to
studies.

Do you have pre-WotLK raiding experience, if so what?

I Started playing Mid-way into Burning Crusade, and as a new player didn't have a great deal of experience
in those end-game raids. Till this day Black temple and Tempest keep have alluded me, but ive been to
Gruuls Lair, Magtheradon's lair and SSC.

What raiding experience do you have in WotLK? Please include which bosses you've done on heroic mode.

With WoTLK ive been fortunate enough to have seen pretty much all Content those Wizards at Blizzard could
come up with. Below is a Quick break down:

I have also done Os 3D 10/25.

Mcluvvin - Protection Paladin (Declined) Raidstats

Character specific questions

Talents and spec.

My current tanking spec is 0/53/18 which is a very typical protection layout. Most of my choices are pretty
self explanatory, but im just gonna mention a few that i feel i can justify a little further.

Conviction (ret) - I decided to spec into this skill as i felt the added bonus from the crit damage will be
a welcome increased threat modifier from the added damage.

Pursuit of Justice (ret) - The disarm reduction is great here but i feel the bonus speed adds far more
appeal for speccing than anything else. This is due to the amount of Icc bosses that require you to be in
places and move from hazards quickly and effectively.
Now ive seen some trees that have included Vindication and Improved Judgments. Both of these i feel are
beneficial but not enough to outweigh the Crit bonus from Conviction. Vindication is also only applicable to
adds, as it doesn't affect bosses and so in my opinion an irrelevant talent for boss killing.

Stats, Gems/Enchants and Glyphs.

My choice of glyphs are as follows :

Glyph of Hammer of the Righteous - The extra target hit really does help with picking up and maintaining
Aggro on large groups of adds.

Glyph of Divine Plea - 3% less damage from all sources, all damage reduction is good damage reduction Smile

Glyph of Judgement - I felt the added bonus damage was, again a great boost to threat generation.

As for minors there arnt a great deal to choose from but i went with:

Glyph of Sense Undead - for the slight extra damage against all undead, great for Icc and means my tracking
can be used as a viable damage addition, not just as a fancy mini map addition.

Glyph of Blessing of Kings - I bless a lot of Kings being a tank so it means i can buff the raid more times
without having to completely run out of mana.

Glyph of Lay on Hands - This is always a last resort when killing bosses and vital for progression runs as
it can make all the difference, so anything to mean i can use it more often cant be all bad.

As a Tank my main focus is staying alive, and to do that i need health and lots of it. My first Priority is
to defense rating, 545 being the optimal number for lvl 80 Raiding and a number i am comfortably above, with
out gemming or enchanting to acquire the cap. (Bar the extra +def rating on my head enchant as it comes
coupled with the best stam enchant too). The next stat is stamina, and ive tried to squeeze out every
possible bit of health i can with my gems and enchants. Every slot i can find has stamina stacked to
maximize the health gain from every socket, Ive avoided all bonuses accept my head socket as in every other
case the bonus isnt justifiable to the stamina lost trying to acquire them.

The Uncrushable rating is also worth mentioning here which is the calculation based on dodge/parry and
block. I use this macro to determine its value

/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Need 102.4 combined avoidance. Currently at:",0.8,0.8,1)
/script
DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(GetDodgeChance()+GetBlockChance() + GetParryChance() +5+
(GetCombatRatingBonus(CR_DEFENSE_SKILL) + 20)*0.04,1,0.5,0)

As a paladin i can never be Passively uncrushable without completely gemming and enchanting for mitigation,
but during raids i am Always "Actively Uncrushable" meaning whilst Holy shield is active (give 30% block) i
maintain the ability to avoid the 150% melee hit from mobs at all times.

As for enchants their all aimed at stamina, and if one isn't available then ive looked at the next best
alternative, be that Armour or base health. The gloves enchant i have seen many different variations, as
there is no stam its kinda of a personal preference. I chose the Armsmen enchant for the added threat,
which along with alot of my choises along the way, give my overall threat generation an decent boost. This
added with the parry rating gives me more mitigation as well. It is also fees-able to use the crit rating or
agility enchant to increase threat through indirect damage increase, but i felt they would all be relative
to the amount of increased threat they would produce.

Rotation

My general rotation for tanking, Open with Avenger's Shield, then Shield of Righteousness, Hammer of Righteous, Judgment, Consecration Then making sure Holy Shield and Sacred shield are always up to give Maximum Mitigation. Hammer of Wrath added to rotation at 20%.

Do you have any notable offspec gear and are you experienced/up to date with the mechanics of playing your
offspecs?

I Have a Dps off set, which currently has the 2 set T10 for the Divine storm CD. Im a tank at heart, but
love to give Ret a thrash around in dungeons and raids. Ive Recently put alot of effort into researching
rotations, specs and stats for my Ret set and i keep it in the best condition as far as gems and enchants
are concerned to maximize its effectiveness. Its no Main spec dps but will perform well when an extra dps
is required in place of a tank.

General questions

Previous guilds and reasons for leaving?

Legion of Doom and Fuse, I first joined with legion of doom just before WotLK and stuck with them up until
Icc first came out, I had a great time and made some good friends that ill never forget but because i was
with them for such a long time, people came and went and it just didn't feel like the same guild. LOD was
always a very social guild, focused on having a good time and enjoying the game with some slow progression
but we worked hard Smile As of 2010 i decided to have a change, alot of things were happening in my life so i
decided to shake it up on wow too. Enter Fuse, at the time was making so good head way, and i enjoyed the
new pace of progression and raid schedules. But as of late, alot of good people have left, to me for some
weird reasons but as such has left us with flaky raiding and poor attendance.

What role do you feel you provide in a raid and what areas of strengths do you feel your class and spec has
over others?

I have always taken progression raiding seriously and my role as a tank an important one. I am a very quick
learner, with the ability to listen, and adapt to any advise given. As such I have the confidence to be
thrown in the deep end and perform well. As a paladin im constantly told to tank adds in raid, due to our
natural ability to multi mob tank. This i feel is our one major advantage over other possible tank classes,
and one trait of paladin tanking i have learned to love.

What 1 thing would you change about your class if you could?

Being a paladin for all of my Wow life i cant really answer that Razz Gotta Love those pally's and with the
Cataclysm Pala Preview finally released i can only get more excited for the direction in which paladins are
heading. There is certainly lots to think about and as it gets closer to beta and final release im sure
there will be a great deal to learn.

What do you think you can add to Eternals?

I feel i can add a Solid tank to any raid team, that you can rely on to be confident in his ability to take
on any challenge, any boss, and someone to generally have a laugh with, because at the end of the day we
all play Wow to enjoy the game, progress in the content we have been given and get our money's worth out of
the game we all pay for Smile

What do you think Eternals can do for you?
Other then just a chance to prove myself a worthy player, i cant ask for anything more Smile I know trying to find a place for an extra tank can be hard, but i promise to not let you down.

Do you know anyone from Eternals who might have something nice to say about you?

Voodooman possibly Razz if hes feeling nice, Not a real life friend but I often talk to him about tactics,
specs, gear and general chitty chat Smile

Just like so say if you have any more question im more than willing to answer them, ill check back regularly, and post any replies ASAP.

Could u log out in your tank gear plz... thanks.

Have u considered changing your glyphs? seens not many bosses in icc requers u to tank more than 3 mobs at a time? witch meen u can get glyph of salvation as an extra CD insted of your glyph of HotR.

your rotation is great for threat at start, but wont that make your CD crash?

1 more thing. i seem to have problems hitting expertise cap without the glyph of seal of veangence. so im wondering if u got the same problem? seens i cant see your gear.

KK Ive Relogged. now in tanking gear.

Im up for any Changes you think will Benefit, i don't claim to know everything and am always interested to hear theory craft.

As glyphs are concerned I see your point about the 1 extra hit, from HotR, and looking at the salvation alternative it looks very interesting i shall definitely look into it. Tho reducing my threat on a boss to gain damage reduction seems a little riské, I guess you would make sure you were sufficiently high on the aggro table not to loose the boss during its activation.

Now on the issue of expertise Cap, I know i havnt managed to reach the cap, but i honestly have never noticed this a problem. Along the way a few people have said, "btw i notice u dont have the cap" Not to say there has ever been a problem with my threat. And my honest response is that i don't really think about it. Ive never had a problem keeping aggro, that's not to say im unaware of its potential, Ofc there is huge advantages to reducing your chance to be dodged or parried, as more hits means more threat in the long run. The only real way to test would be in a raid environment and if it proves to be a problem there are two easy things i can do to hit the cap.

1. Changing my glove enchant to +15 exp
2. Like you mentioned getting the (glyph of seal of vengeance) +10 exp ( i would probably change this for the HotR Glyph)

This will give a total of 25 extra on top of my Current 11 exp, easily hitting the cap required. So in short Smile if it needs changing, then i can change it.

On the note of rotation, again its never seemed to be a problem Smile But a nerdy sit down with yourself to discuss possible alternatives and theories for improvements would be my pleasure Smile

Id like to correct what i previously said about my Expertise cap, Ive recently just done some in depth research into it and discovered that it maybe be harder that what i mentioned before.

# 8.10 expertise rating = +1 expertise
# Each point of expertise reduces the chance for your attacks to be parried or dodged by 0.25% each. Hence, each point of expertise reduces the total chance for your attacks to be avoided by 0.50% (until the target's dodge chance reaches zero.)

Source: http://elitistjerks.com/f76/t37172-protection_paladin_field_manual_wow_3_0_wotlk/p58/#post1336981#ixzz0lwpKVXqU

Reading a lot of the Paladin Tanking discussions from Elitist Jerks, I am very interested now in gaining that Cap or getting as close to is as possible, as i think it may be quite beneficial.

Also I am replacing Some Glyphs and maybe an enchant or two, to further tweak My tanking capabilities, the SoV glyph probably being one of the additions so Good call on that one, ty for bringing it to my attention Smile

Any way just wanted to update you on these little tweaks i am making to my character, as it may affect your decision.

Change the Judgment Glyph to the SoV one, for the extra exp, now i am at 21, also i invested in some Rhinolicious meat for 40 stam and 40 exp rate food buff Smile which gives a total of 25 exp.
