Commanding Presence

Post  Ragingal on Sun Dec 07, 2008 12:39 pm

Just been looking at, and thinking about, a couple of things while i've been afk from the game the last couple of days. Basically, the 4 main raiding warriors atm (nigth, bandag, alsoloves and criip) and myself are all specced into 5/5 Commanding presence. Im pretty certain from what I've seen on WWS, although i cant confirm as i cant log onto it atm, we are taking at least 2 warriors to every raid which means that for 1 of those warriors, those 5 points are wasted in a raid spec assuming we have a ret pally in the raid with 2 points specced in Imp GBoM (both Shaitan and Fred are). Obviously, having 1 specced means that they can put commanding shout up for an additional 2818 HP to everyone in the raid. So we need to look at where the extra 5 points can be spent.
The obvious place seems to be in 5/5 improved demo shout, thus reducing the melee AP of hostile targets by 40%, im sure the healers wouldn't complain about the tanks taking reduced melee dmg assuming the debuff is always up, and i'm sure that while we're at a point where the tanks avoidance isnt as high as we're all used to as we are still gearing up, any reduction in the incoming damage is surely welcome.
Alternativley the points could be spent in Weapon Mastery and Precision (2 and 3 points respectivley) as im pretty certain none of us are at the white hit cap yet, not that achiving that is a high priority as total yellow dmg accounts for more than whit dmg (yellow dmg accounted for ~50% of my dmg against a training dummy the other day, 36% while dmg). So any talents that will increase hit chance of reduce the chance to be dodged can't be a bad thing.
The final place i can think of putting the extra points would be 5/5 in Unbridled Wrath of 4/5 unbridled wrath and 1 in anger management, purely for rage generation early doors in a fight. I only say this because i've found that when a fight starts that my rotation isnt as good as it can be because i'm rage starved, 30 rage for bloodthirst and 25 rage for WW takes it toll early on unless we can score some crits early i find im spamming BT or WW and just getting 'not enough rage' messages. However, taking a Rage pot before entering combat is an easier solution imo.
So thats about it really, this is really for people to get some further communication going so that before a raid starts, we can do as much as we can bring as many buffs(personal and raidwide)/debuffs to a raid in order to maintain the excellent progress (or now farming) of the 25-man instances that are available so that when new content is released, we can be ready to step into the new instances and burn through them as well. The suggestions above are by no means correct, and i know there are a lot of you that are better theorycrafters and have a greater understanding of class mechanics than myself, so lets open up the floor and get some creative discussion going on this front.
I'm not saying 5/5 commanding presence is wrong, its excellent in 5/10-mans when there is not pally bringing imp GBoM, i'm just saying there is no need for 2 warriors with the spec when we have active raiding ret pallys.
Oh, finally, FFS, Lifestory!

Just a quick note, i spotted that Rookew has 5/5 in feral aggerssion, i'm assuming that if this is up, demo shout would only overwrite it or would not even be applied. if this is the case, whenever rook is raiding, we do not need to spec Imp demo shout.
