Alerada / Praxin - DPS/Heal Application (Accepted)

Post  Alerada on Fri Dec 18, 2009 2:53 am

General information:

Characters name:
Alerada / Praxin
Class: Mage / Paladin
Race: Human / Human
Armory link: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ghostlands&n=Alerada / http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ghostlands&n=Praxin
UI screenshot: http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1971/wowscrnshot121709184957.jpg
Information about my UI:
My UI might seem a bit cluttered. I have ICEHud to show my health and mana around my character because this allows me to easily see it and with the target beneath my character (name and buffs) I can easily check my mana, health, enemy health and enemy buffs quickly. I have pitbull for my frame in order to remove the WoW default frames and I use Vuhdo as my party and raid frames. My buffs appear down the right hand side of my screen, since most are raid and can be ignored. I have a special section just above my bars for specific buffs or debuffs to watch for so I don’t have to look through all my buffs/debuffs. An example is ice block which appears above so I can easily click it off without having to search for it.
Played Time on your character: 123 days / 24 days
Professions and level of professions: Jewelcrafting 450, Enchanting 406 / Inscription 432 , Enchanting 322 (easily levelable to 400 for ring enchants, currently below as it is an alt so not a priority for me)

Do you have a stable internet connection (Yes/No and average MS in raids):
Yes, I average 50 to 150m although usually around 80ish ms most nights while I’m living at uni. My ms is about 150 when I am with my parents.

What other characters do you have?
No other level 80s outside of those 2, a level 73 DK, 41 Rogue, 36 Druid, many other low level alts. I am currently working on my rogue when I get bored.

Raid times and Experience:

We raid 7 days a week, days and times could possibly change in the future, please delete yes or no below depending on whether you would be able to attend or not. (Server times)
Monday 19:30-00:00 - Yes
Tuesday 19:30-00:00 - Yes
Wednesday 19:30-00:00 - Yes
Thursday 19:30-00:00 - No
Friday 19:30-xx:xx – Yes – no restriction
Saturday 19:30-xx:xx – Yes – no restriction
Sunday 19:30-23:00 - Yes

Do you have pre-WotLK raiding experience, if so what?
None

What 10 man and 25 man Ulduar bosses have you cleared and of which out of those bosses have you done on hard mode?
10man: 13/14, Hard Modes: XT, Hodir, Thorim, Iron Council
25man: 13/14, Hard Modes: Flame Leviathan, XT, Iron Council, Thorim, Hodir, (Not hard modes: Freya+1, Yogg-Saron+3)

I have also cleared all of ToC normal both 10 and 25 and done all the bosses up to and including twins on both 10 and 25 man heroic. I have done tries on Anub’arak hard mode on both 10 and 25 man modes.

Character specific questions:
Alerada:
Explain your current gear choices and how you hope to improve then in the future.
Currently gear wise, I am in a good position. I am slightly over hit rating due to current gear issues mostly from too much gear with hit rating or too much hit rating on current gear. I have a lot of spirit and since the changes to molten armour, I have tried to stack haste and spirit since haste is a very good stat and for arcane, spirit increases MP5 regen and arcane has a huge mana cost over time so this way I can dps more since I will go oom less and burn more without having to spend time evocating which in some boss fights can be risky as they can interrupt and if you get interrupted mid-evocate then it can cause problems with not being able to cast. This helps with this. I still have some IL239 gear. This is because ToC25 normal drops 245 and I saw no reason to upgrade to this gear when I had 239 and other people in my previous guild would get better dps gains by upgrading which would help progress more and not hinder my dps too much. I would like to improve my gear by first replacing my back which is old and this is one of my first goals. My second goal is to replace my Illustration of the Dragon Soul with Muradin’s Spyglass from ICC since it has a similar effect and adds crit rating on top which would be a huge boost. I am still using Illustration of the Dragon Soul because it is still a very good trinket dps wise and the other 2 pre-ICC trinkets I would replace it with never drop while I am on my mage so I have stuck with it.

Comment on how youve chosen to gem and enchant your character, and why you have chosen these gems/enchants.
Gems
I have gemmed in a very strange way to how some people would gem. My main gem I use are spell power gems since spell power is the strongest stat a mage can have after being hit capped. After this, I considered the socket bonuses and off-balanced them with what gems I could use. My head piece for example has a meta socket and a yellow socket. I decided to gem this with SP and Haste because this way I lose 2 SP and gain 10 haste over gemming it with a 23 SP gem which is a good trade off. My choice of gems after this is between 23 SP, 12 SP and 10 haste and 12 SP and 10 spirit. I also have multiple purple gems because this way as well, when I replace a piece of gear, I do not have to worry about my meta gem not working anymore due to it no longer meeting the requirements.

Enchants
My enchants were possible are SP > Haste > Crit > Hit and as a result I have enchanted as such excluding my weapon and my boots. My weapon has black magic because this enchant is currently very in since it was buffed as the dps gain I get from the 250 haste proc-ing is greater than the 63SP. I also gave my boots Tuskarr’s Vitality because I feel this is also more useful the 12 hit and crit. The additional run speed allows me to move faster (useful for fights such as Anub’arak hard mode for running from the spikes) and the extra hit would not be useful so I would gain only 12 crit. Due to the fact I am also a cloth wearer and have lowish HP, surviving and being able to move that bit quicker is a better gain that 12 extra crit.

What glyphs are you using and why?
The major glyphs I am using are molten armour, arcane missiles and arcane blast. I have the molten armour glyph because then I get an additional 20% critical strike rating from my spirit which is a lot therefore it increases my critical strike rating by a lot too. The other two, arcane missiles and arcane blast, are the best for the spec since arcane missiles and barrage are 2 of the spells which are most used and therefore my damage is increased considerably. This makes them the strongest 3 glyphs for me.

Do you have any notable offspec gear and are you experience/up to date with the mechanics of playing your offspecs?
My offspec at the moment is a fire aoe build mostly used for fun in heroics which is easy. This will be changed to a fireball build in order to allow scorch since changes to scorch means it can be useful to a debuff to apply to a boss since both arcane and fire are roughly producing the same dps and so having scorches and arcane empowerment would increase raid dps instead of having 2 arcane empowerments which doesn’t stack. I prefer playing arcane however I can play either just as well as fire used to be my old mainspec.

We require you to have at least one crafting profession (not engineering). If you have two gathering professions, would you be prepared to reroll one?
I have enchanting and jewelcrafting. These are both high enough to allow me to use them for raiding. Should the guild wish me to reroll them to help with anything, I am more than willing to. I have lots of practice in levelling professions so it would be easy.

Additional Information:
Currently slightly over the hit cap for raids given a shadow priest or boomkin but working on reducing it to 210 (Hit cap with Shadow priest/boomkin + talents). I also never consider a draenai in my hit cap calculations as it cannot always be guaranteed that there will be 5 draenai and it is hard to get such a low hit rating these days with the crazy amount of hit on gear.

Praxin:
Explain your current gear choices and how you hope to improve then in the future.
Mostly replace my lower level gear with higher level gear. I currently have pvp wrists equipped instead of proper wrists because they were better than the IL213 wrists and they have not been replaced yet with a better pair. Since this is also an alt, I have not kitted it out with crafted bracers since that seems like an extra. Of course, possible should it become my main.

Comment on how youve chosen to gem and enchant your character, and why you have chosen these gems/enchants.
Gems
I have gemmed completely in intellect. It provides both a larger mana pool and more spell power. Currently the gems are 16 Intellect mostly instead of 20 Intellect since it is an alt and I didn’t see any reason to spend money on getting 20 intellect gems on an alt. It would of course be fixed if you wanted me to roll paladin. I currently use the 21 intellect meta because this increases my mana pool and gives me a chance to return mana which stops me running out of mana as easily. I have a prismatic gem to make up for all the colours I need for the meta gem.

Enchants
I have tried to enchant for intellect for a bigger mana pool where possible. Where this isn’t possible, I focus on haste or SP as my enchants such as on my back and weapon. My enchants at the moment are mostly the best however one or two are second best such as SP on weapon and this could easily be fixed as was my alt and prior to patch 3.3, I did not have the mats to enchant 63 SP but I do now and that should be done in the next day or so.

What glyphs are you using and why?
Holy light as my first major as it increases adds heals to the adjacent players and since paladins are best as tank healers, this means melee get minor heals which is useful for AoE moves such as the interrupt on Gormok. My second is beacon because this means I do not have to cast beacon as often and increases my mana efficiency as beacon has a highish mana cost. My third is seal of wisdom and that is to reduce the cost of my heals increasing my mana efficiency further because the paladin healing has no problems with the size of the heal but with the mana cost of the healing meaning mana is a bigger problem.

Do you have any notable offspec gear and are you experience/up to date with the mechanics of playing your offspecs?
I am up to date with tanking. I have quite a bit of ToC10 Tanking gear. My wrists are not awesome but I can replace those easily with the crafted ones.

We require you to have at least one crafting profession (not engineering). If you have two gathering professions, would you be prepared to reroll one?
I have enchanting and inscription for the shoulder enchant. Just as I said above on Alerada’s part, I can reroll them should the guild need anything in particular.

Additional Information:
This is currently my alt and as such the gems and enchants are not top on my tanking gear and on one or two pieces of healing gear as this was not a priority. If this was to become my main in either spec those would be fixed quickly and any slot in which crafted gear would be better would be sorted out right away.

General questions

Previous guilds and reasons for leaving?
Tasteful Pain – I left to migrate with Saphy to Ghostlands. Used to be a raid leader there and was part of the council. I was also their master looter for the last 6 months or so and left under good terms to seek out further raiding of endgame content.

What role do you feel you provide in a raid and what areas of strengths do you feel your class and spec has over others?
I feel I have a good strength in burst damage. Arcane mages have a high burst. This allows me to get huge dps out in key moments such as portals on Lord Jaraxxus. I also have a good dps progressively and provide intellect buffs and strudels for the raid. I can also switch to a more settled DPS in the form of fire spec which is less burst and more settled DPS depending on the fight allowing me to get the best dps for that fight (Arcane < Fire on Anub HM because fire has the extra AoE which helps). As a paladin, I can provide one of 4 buffs to the raid to help them out and my healing is a good tank healing due to being able to push out large heals as well as dispel magic, poison and disease effects and heal 2 targets at the same time with my large heals which helps for tanks to survive the large hits which bosses can put out.

What 1 thing would you change about your class if you could?
I would modify their gear. The first thing I would change would be the armour on cloth. I would also change the stupid amounts of hit rating on items since there is too much hit rating sitting around these days on tier gear and in general for arcane mages. I would also make mage gear look less like warlock stuff (tier 10) and more like tier 6.

What do you think you can add to Eternals?
I think I can add my complete insanity to the guild. I also have a very good raid attendance record inside of my previous guild which means I am very reliable as a raider as to which days I will be there.

What do you think Eternals can do for you?
Give me a stable guild with a stable raiding environment raiding the end game content which I enjoy raiding. Give me a positive atmosphere in which I can enjoy playing WoW. They are a strong guild and I think I would fit in well.

Personal infomation; Name, age, where you live, interests/hobbies, Job and family that will nag you to stop raiding?
In the real world, I am Geoff and I am 20 years old. My hearthstone resides in Nottingham most of the year however during the summer I live in Lincoln because I am a student. I am studying computer science because it rocks. While I am at home, my family does not stop me raiding ever. I have a radio show once a week currently however this is on Monday morning at 2 – 5 game time at the moment (3 – 6 during Summer time) and as a result is never a problem also.

Additional information which you would like to name?
I wish blizzard would also fix blink which is a bit random and sometimes blinks you forwards, sometimes backwards and sometimes nowhere. It is a bit too random for such a straightforward spell. I can tank on praxin as well however I think the guild already has enough tanks.

Which character would you prefer to be your main, or do you really don't mind either? And if paladin, which spec do you enjoy most?
Good luck on your app. Smile

I enjoy either character so either would be my preferred main. Both has their perks and I enjoy either of them just as much. In terms of paladin specs, I enjoy tanking and healing. I enjoy any spec really and I love tanking and healing which is why I love doing heroics as either (although my healing gear is slightly better than my tanking gear atm) and because I enjoy raiding in general rather than raiding as a specific character so it would more depend where the guild could best use me if I am accepted and ty ^^

This is a situation where some nights we need another paladin, some nights we need another mage. Ive spent some time in groups with your paladin, and spoke with you on skype and think youd add to the mix just fine. My only concern with your paladin is the mana usseage (only basing this off heroics) and overhealing was horrendous :p You should be finding it impossible to oom so much with your gear setup (although i guess ressing saphy so much plays a part in that).

Ill talk with you ingame about which character before we proceeed, however
