dps spec

Post  Duddjaco on Fri Nov 28, 2008 2:21 pm

unholyblood

think these are the 2 main dps specs if u don't count tri spec which has had little testing so far but will be more valid at high gear lvs with high haste and hit ratings.
Blood is high on single target dps and unholy can aoe like a bitch.

any comments?

Blood Spec:
You should ditch blood worms. They hit like girls and add no benifit to the raid. Put two in Blood Aura, which adds some raid healing. Put the other point in rune tap.
For frost i would change it also. Toughness stacks with bladed armour. i think the below spec is better.

I must admit i am still thinking about blood-caked blade for a 50/0/21 spec or 51/0/20 but will test these at 80.

the thing with that is the 2% heal works out not doing all that much, reading the forums. But i agree with the toughness. going for bloodcaked strike will be more of a nurf since u will spend more time using heart strike rather than obilterate which is not great

Even with the obliterate talent from frost you still only do 2 in a full 20 second rotation. However, you do 6 heart strikes in this time. This is the main DPS of a blood spec.

You would have to suplement 2 HS's for an extra PS and IT with the 51/20 or 50/21 specs.

I did 800 DPS in nexus yesterday. Which i guess is not bad for poor gear at level 70. Was nearly double the other DPS in the pug i did.

Ignore the bloodworm haters. Yeah they dont hit hard but according to Elitist Jerks math tables they still add up for 3-4% of your dps which isnt that bad.

Its hard to say exactly how blood will scale, but the mathboys have indicated 50/21 is gonna be the premier build with really high end gear. But with the buffs to DRW in the pipe its hard to say for sure. So for now if using blood I´d go with the 51/13/7 build. The rotation is a lot more forgiving than the 50/21 one.

Your unholy build is a bit odd if I have to say so. I assume that point in outbreak was a leftover of some sort. Well anyhow desecration is a good levelling talent until you start to raid and realize how utterly shi....how little it gives you. You either move constantly and run off your little patch on the ground or the timer runs out. With SS glyph you regulary go 40 seconds or more without using plague strike so with a 12 second uptime those 5% is more like 0.5% assuming the boss even has the courtesy of standing in one place. Even if you were to use unholy dps build without the SS glyph the rotation is 18-20 seconds long and its not gonna stay up the full time anyway.

I´d take out the 3 points from desecration and the 1 from outbreak and put a minimum of 2 in Virulence to make your needed spellhit more in line with your needed melee hit. Rest put in Night of the dead which can be a really good on AoE heavy bosses. Whoops your ghoul goes down...well just summon another. And in 3.0.8 I reckon NotD will be a required talent since they added a 35/70 AoE reduction for the pets into the talent.
